Handi Quilter

If you're looking for a solution for quilting those quilt tops that have a way of stacking up on us, we have two great options for you:

 1) We can quilt them for you - we have several staff members who are experienced, high-quality quilters, and we will be glad to talk with you about personalized quilting on our long-arms, or we can give you a cost estimate for your consideration

 2) You can
rent time on one of our Handi Quilter long-arms.  This is a very fun and economical way to catch up on your quilt tops.
Jeanne is scheduling one-on-one training sessions for quilters who would like to take advantage of this.  After completing the class, you can rent time to quilt your own quilts on any of our 4 HandiQuilter machines.  So, if you have a few UFO's waiting to be completed, call the shop at 770 831-7990 to schedule your class and then book a time to finish up those projects!

CLASSES

Our class schedules are posted in our email newsletter, so be sure to sign up to receive your copy.    Our classes continue to evolve, but below is a highlight of what we offer....

Our Basics

We offer a very popular series of classes we call  Beginning Quilting By Machine. You'll get eight 2-hour classes, in which we'll teach you all the basics  to make your first lap-size or baby quilt.
These classes are a perfect way to learn the best techniques for quilting for anyone with limited experience.   It's also a great way for self-taught quilters to brush up on the best practices  for quilting.

Helga offers a Beginning Sewing series (3 classes) each month.  The class is an introduction into sewing, perfect for anyone with a new machine, and also a great class for teens interested in creating their own designs.  The classes are held on Monday nights from 5:00pm - 8:00pm, and cost for the series is $90.00

Sandra's Embroidery Club  groups have grown and now there are eight different groups!  Each Club meets once a month, and delights in learning new techniques and exploring new possibilities as they share their projects, resources and inspirations. Show & Tell is an important part of each meeting, followed by monthly demonstrations.

Sandra is also our software guru for embroideries and embroidery programs...   If you need help with your embroideries - whether software, stabilizers, threads or machine issues -  come in and talk with her, I'm certain she'll be able to help you out.....

 We also offer a monthly
!UFO! Sew-In ("UFO" is a very descriptive quilters term for  "Unfinished Objects") .  This is an all-day event, you can drop in at any time from 10:00am - 5:00pm and stay as long as you like.   You will have our expert staff (which is worth the $5.00  fee alone), and can use our tools: an Elna serger, irons, the AccuQuilt Studio (the commercial grade fabric cutter), the HQ Sweet Sixteen Sit-Down machine, a light tracer box, an Elna press, and large tables to spread out with your project.  So look through your stash and find one of those projects you have never finished - whether quilting, embroidery, or sewing. This is your chance to bring new life to an old project.    Is this "quilt heaven" or what!  Bring a covered dish for lunch and share - lots of good food, fellowship and fun.

Strip Club offers a new quilt quarterly.  It works like this: month 1, we design the quilt, month 2 we display the quilt, take sign-up's and prepare the kits, month 3 you pick up your kit.

Special Events

Beginning in January of each year, we offer a new Sampler Club.  Sign-up's are always held in the month of December, and the meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday and the 3rd Saturday of each month (you select which day is better for you).

We also host several weekly Women Of The Bible Quilt groups - combining a weekly Bible study with making a 6 inch quilt block representing each remarkable (and sometimes infamous) woman we study.  The studies are based on the book "Women Of The Bible" by Ann Spangler and Jean Syswerda.

March is a very busy month for us as we prepare for the Greater Atlanta Shop Hop!  We also sponsor a  booth at the Atlanta Original Sewing & Quilt Expo each March.  If you are attending the show, stop by and visit with us.....

Each year we host a Christmas In July event, and this year will be no exception.
We're always thinking up new ideas to showcase and delight you with, so we fill the shop with samples, Chrsitmas fabrics, patterns and techniques

Sandra will be teaching another  Christmas Ornament Gift Card Holder embroidery class, so if you missed it before - stay tuned for the dates & times.   Cost for the class is $20.00 + cost for the kit.  You'll create beautiful "Ornaments" using your embroidery machine - perfect for holding gift cards, checks or money and then hanging on the Christmas Tree. This is a stand-alone embroidery class - you do not have to be in one of her embroidery groups to take it.

Our Handi Quilter National Educator, Mary Beth Krapil, is with us at least once each year for more hands-on long-arm training.  In a few short days, we cram in as much as time allows: usually classes in Threads, Needles & Tension (TNT), Pro-Stitcher training, and free-motion quilting.  Mary Beth always brings along lots of beautiful samples that she's created with new and creative techniques.

The delightful & charming Walter Floriani joins us most years in August for a very informative session where he shares his very extensive knowledge on embroidery.

One Sunday afternoon in early December, we host a Christmas Open House.  This is a time we set aside to gather with friends and to celebrate the coming season of Christmas.

Technique Classes

We offer many different Technique Classes throughout the year.  Let us know if you are interested in one of these and we'll notify you the next time it's offered again.  If we don't have one scheduled soon, we'll do our best to add it to our class schedule:

Helga occasionally offers her classes in applique - techniques in both hand and machine.whether it's used in quilting or to enhance your techniques in fashion sewing or even home decor.  Let us know if you're interested in any of these classes.

Sandra teaches a  stand-alone embroidery class on Cut-work Embroidery.   Cost for the class is $20.00 + kit fee.  You'll learn the age-old technique of cut-work embroidery.   This technique looks so elegant but Sandra will teach you a really easy way to accomplish an elegant cutwork guest towel.

We also schedule special guest teachers throughout the year, who teach new techniques and bring samples, new books, new tools, etc. and teach us how to use them.  These are announced in our newsletters, so be sure to keep us updated with your email address to stay current with specail class offerings.
