Quilting Basics

Teacher: Bonnie Moore

 A three part class that can be taken consecutively or as single classes that suit your schedule and needs.  The class topics are designed for the beginning quilter or an intermediate quilter needing some refreshers.  Participants should have basic sewing machine knowledge.  You can bring your own machine or use one of our Elna machines.  Please indicate your preference when you register.

Session 1
Rotary Cutting & Accurate Piecing

Find the position for a ¼” seam allowance without additional presser feet or machine settings. Create an accurate pieced block with techniques that are universal to all block designs.  Class fee includes a fabric kit that will make two 9” blocks.  Please indicate Holiday or batik fabric kit when you register.

Session 2
Settings, Sashings and Borders


Focus on ideas and methods for putting your quilt squares together to make a quilt top.  Participants should have completed 9-12 blocks of their choice or from the previous class. Color and strip sizes with be discussed and calculated so that participants can purchase their fabrics during class.

Session 3
Quilting and Binding

Create your quilt “sandwich”.  Participants will calculate batting and backing needed to complete their quilt.  Pinning, basting, marking, quilting and binding options will be presented and calculated.  Bring a small finished quilt top if you have one.

  Heirloom I Notebook

Teacher: Jennelle Robertson
Class Dates (2 classes): Thursday, January 8th & 15th
Class Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Class Cost:  $50.00 + $20.00 for kit


Make your own notebook of techniques on how to do "french Hand sewing" on your sewing machine.  When you are finished, you will be a pro at rolling and whipping, lace insertion, puffing, and working with entredeux and lace.  Kit will be furnished at the first class ($20.00).

This class is required to join the “Heirloom Block of the Month” which will be starting in January.

Heirloom II Notebook

Teacher: Jennelle Robertson
Class Dates (3 classes): Tuesday, February  17th & 24th & March 3rd
Class Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Class Cost:  $60.00 + $20.00 for kit

Come learn the next techniques in heirloom sewing.

You will learn many lace shapes.  How to combine your lace shapes to form borders.

You know how to do pintucks, now learn to do shaping with them.

Create a scalloped pintuck hem and combine pintucks with your lace shapes.

Create shapes also with lace tape.


  Where'd That 9-Patch Go?

Date: Saturday, January 17th
Time: 11:00am - 3:00pm
Teacher: Joan Garland
Cost: $40.00

Take a 9-patch block and toss it and turn it.  Wait until you see how great it looks.
Once you make this quilt you'll want to make more and Joan will show you how easy it is!
To speed things up the students should precut 1/2 yard of nine fabrics: 5 darks & 4 lights of 5 inch squares.
Bring extra fabric in case of errors or color indecision.

 
Appliqué Technique Notebook

Dates (2 classes): Friday, January 30th & February 6th
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm
Cost: $50.00 + kit
Kit $10.00
Instructor: Jenelle Robertson

You can give a special touch to your sewing by adding an appliqué design.  Come make a notebook, learning several techniques of machine appliqué.
 

 
Mystery Quilt

Date: Saturday, February 28th
Time: 10:00am - 6:00pm
(Bring your lunch)
Teacher: Joan Garland
Cost: $50.00 + your selected fabric

If you love mysteries or puzzles, this is the class for you!  We'll spend the day sewing the squares for your quilt, with a lunch break in between.  The quilt's mystery is revealed as Joan steps you through the instructions.  This class is perfect for all skill levels.... you'll do some pre-cutting at home, then join us for a fun day of sewing!

You'll need to select your fabric when you register - and receive a student 15% discount.  More info will follow soon.....


9-Patch Pizazz

Date: Thursday, March 12th 
Time: 4:00pm - 8:30pm
Teacher: Joan Garland
Cost: $45.00 + book

Have you ever wanted to make an oriental quilt, but afraid to cut up all that beautiful fabric?
You won't lose the design with this easy on-point pattern and the 9-patch design will compliment your focus fabric beautifully.Book required for this class is 9-Patch Pizazz by Judy Sisneros.....    You will also find a beautiful collection of Asian fabrics in our shop.
